Rebecca Lajboschitz (b. 1988, Copenhagen, Denmark) is a contemporary artist whose work spans across sculpture and wall based works. Her work stands on the the shoulders of historic crafts traditions which are translated freely through self invented techniques and methods, thus placing familiar materials, particularly textiles, in a contemporary art context. Narratives and motifs appear via an experimental approach to a medium driven practice. She challenges presumptions by working both with and against the inherent qualities and pretext of her chosen medium. Materials are freed from their former functions and shaped into new narratives proposing alternative stories of form and meaning. This approach isdescribed as “painting with textiles”.

Transformation is key to her practice, which often carries traces of a past, a “before” resonating on a “present”. Using sourced materials from her environment, she embraces a collaborative, connective method, linking time, place, and human experience. Her work is visually characterised by a strong musicality, in which repetition, color, and motifs suggests stories and invites reflection and association.

Rebecca Lajboschitz studied BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London. She has exhibited in Denmark, Japan, England, and Scotland.
